Is it possible to get botulism from commercially prepared salsa?
I opened a glass jar of store bought salsa verde about 3 to 4 weeks ago. It has been kept in the fridge in its original container since opening. This morning I was going to put some salsa on my omelet & thought Id taste it first to be sure it was not spoiled. I usually smell foods to make sure they are spoiled but for some reason I taste tested. It tasted a bit off but did not have any mold on the lid or on the food. I spit it out & rinsed my mouth with water. It got me thinking about food poisoning. So I googled it & found out that botulism can grow in salsa? I never realized this! Since this is a commercially prepared salsa is it possible to get botulism from it? Of course I know other bacteria can grow, but botulism is concerning since it can be fatal!
